We've all heard of the Hero's Journey...
He leaves the familiarity and comfort of home, off on an adventure, following a map or clues from one challenge to next.
He rides a stallion or carries a sword (or a light-saber) or nothing more than a nap-sack. He is in search of a treasure, a rainbow, a challis, his soul. He sets off to conquer demons, save the world, to destroy a death-star. Or in the case of the quintessential Neo in The Matrix movie trilogy, to undo the false illusion that holds all of humankind captive.

He is young, naive, ambitious, and uninitiated. His is a journey of learning, overcoming obstacles, achieving and acquiring. He meets his teachers along the way, step by step, and occasionally one step back. He gets knocked down. He finds out what he's made of which isn't at all what he expected to be. In the end, our hero discovers his role in the mystery. He finds himself or truth, or saves the kingdom, or wins the war. And along the way, he is transformed.
We’ve all heard this tale in mythology. We’ve watched it in top-grossing films like Star Wars and Matrix. In many ways, it is the foundational, archetypal story of the world's most influential religion. Jesus walked this path until he was in the knowing embodiment of wisdom and Love. The hero’s journey, as Joseph Campbell so brilliantly expressed, is the basis of much of what we know about how to have personal achievement and serve the well-being of our communities.
But wait a second... that's HIS story. How does it relate to you? To us, as women?
Both men and women have access to our own “inner masculine.” This inner identity can be realized as drive, ambition, linear creation, systems and structures; qualities and resources we have developed well. In the Soul Journey of an Emergent Woman, the first stage of our journey is mostly identified with masculine capacities, values and perceptions. Hey, let's face it, many of us think when we were more a man than the men in our lives. In many ways, you may see yourself having done your own version of the hero’s journey.
Women have been doing it "his way" for years. While many of us have excelled at it, "the hero's journey" is not her way. Not HER way, not the way of the feminine presence. As women, we have been living in the shadows, as our bodies' gender reflected the Feminine. Some women throughout time have risen up, and persevered in the patriarchal, masculine rule. But for most, we have unconsciously been degrading ourselves and each other, just as humankind degraded the Divine Feminine. All that is changing. Now.

Today women are waking to the inner call to discover the heroine’s journey in numbers we’ve ever seen before. |
Consciousness includes all that is. Masculine and feminine, divine and human, three dimensional and expansive beyond our imagination. The re-emergence of the Divine Feminine is, in part, what you may be experiencing, as a ripple of awakening is echoing throughout humanity.
This is not at the exclusion of men, not of masculine capacities. This is an expansion of BEingness that to understand, you must experience. You must live into Her.
Divine Feminine is not a female, not a goddess, not a priestess, not your mother or anyone's mother. She is not personified, and not a "she." Yet, I haven't found a pronoun better than "her."
She is Is-ness. An essential presence, Divine Feminine is emerging in consciousness and in the hearts, bodies and souls of women and men all throughout the world. Through Her, you may experience greater depth, wisdom, a sense of connection that happens through the “inner feminine,” and stand (or possibly dance) in Her love, power and grace.
